A free webinar is being hosted at the UNESCO Kerry Biosphere Reserve next week on Tuesday the 16th from 12 -1.30pm that may be of interest to to those with an interest in History and traditional Irish culture and crafts.

This webinar is part of a yearlong series celebrating the 50th year anniversary of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Man and the Biosphere programme created in collaboration with our two neighbouring Biosphere Reserves the Dublin Bay Biosphere Reserve and the Isle of Man Biosphere Reserve.

The speaker this month is Shane Lehane and his talk is titled ‘Old Ways in New Days’.

Shanes talk focuses on traditional skills, how they emerged and were perfected and how we can apply some of those lessons today.

Shane is an archaeologist, folklorist and historian and course Director of Cultural and Heritage Studies in CSN, College of Further Education, Cork. He also lectures in the Department of Folklore and Ethnology, UCC where his specialism in in ‘Custom, Tradition and Belief’.

Shane has appeared on many television and radio programmes exploring many different aspects of Irish folk tradition. He is a regular and very popular contributor on the Today Show (RTÉ) expounding many different aspects of Irish folk custom.

He has additional research interests in material culture and time. Shane is also a beekeeper and advocate of Irish vernacular craft.
