The Cáirde are a group of 5th Year students who work closely with the 1st year students in the school. The primary role of the Cáirde is to ease the transition from primary to secondary school for all 1st years. Initially, the Cáirde have daily contact with the 1st years, making sure they are organised for their classes and settling in well. As the school year progresses, the Cáirde take part in various initiatives for first years including Paired Reading, Film Appreciation Society and Fundraisers. The Cairde system has proven to be beneficial for both the first years and the fifth years. The first years benefit from having support from senior students as they embark on their secondary school journey while the Cáirde find the experience to be rewarding and enjoyable. Each year the Cáirde are selected by Ms.Pauline Queally, following careful consideration and consultation with Tutors and Year Heads. The students are selected because of their positive attitude, excellent attendance and their polite and respectful manner. It is an honour to be chosen and a rewarding programme to take part in.
